Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam Manager Killed in Addis Ababa

The project manager of the dam being built by Ethiopia along the Nile River Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has been shot dead.

Simegnew Bekele, who served as GERD project manager for the last seven years, was found shot dead in his Toyota Land Cruiser, which had been parked near a busy road at Meskel Square in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

Simegnew was on his way to address press conference for local media.

His body had a bullet wound behind his right ear according to Zeinu Jemal, head of Ethiopia’s Federal Police Commission.

Jemal, told journalists that investigations have been launched to find those who killed Simegnew.

Later, hundreds of protesters angry at the engineers’ death went on streets of Addis Ababa and petitioned government to make speedy investigation and reveal the murderers.
